Low to continue as Germany head coach

Joachim Low will continue as Germany head coach after intense scrutiny over his future following the 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Spain.

Pressure on the World Cup-winning boss grew immeasurably following the Nations League humbling earlier this month and the German Football Association (DFB) said there would be a timetable to assess the situation .

On Monday, the governing body reaffirmed its support for the 60-year-old to lay to rest any speculation his long tenure was about to come to an end.

The news follows crunch talks between Low, who has been in the job since 2006, and senior members of the DFB, including national team director Oliver Bierhoff.

It was important for the national coach to discuss the current situation, the defeat against Spa…

Portugal – Cape Verde Preview: Andre and Oliveira eager for international bows

Fernando Santos may take the opportunity to utilise the depth of his Portugal squad in Tuesday s friendly against Cape Verde.

That result lifted Portugal to the top of Euro 2016 qualifying Group I, with nine points from their four matches.

Portugal will round off their international week by hosting Cape Verde in Estoril, and the likes of Sporting s Paulo Oliveira and Vitoria Guimaraes Andre Andre are hoping to make their international bow.

It s a dream come true and it is a source of pride being here, Oliveira said.

Being here is a remarkable moment in my career.

Andre echoed those sentiments, saying: I m very happy.

Scudamore confident gay players would be accepted

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore believes the current football environment would be entirely suitable for gay players to be open about their sexuality.

Justin Fashanu became the first openly gay footballer in 1990, but very few others have followed suit since then.

United States international Robbie Rogers came out in 2013, while former Aston Villa and Everton midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger announced he was gay the following year after hanging up his boots.

Scudamore, however, would welcome an active player in the game breaking through the barrier, believing they would be accepted for who they are.

The environment would be entirely suitable for them to come out, Scudamore told the BBC s Newsnight show.

It would be welcome…
